After adding it to your site, check it with Google's Rich Results Test (opens in a new tab).

Three steps

How it works

  1. Fill in your details

Add your business name, type, address, phone number and opening hours. Leave out anything that doesn't apply.

  2. Copy the code

The tool writes the JSON-LD as you type. Copy it with one click when you're happy with it.

  3. Add it to your site and test it

Paste the code into your homepage or contact page, then check it with Google's Rich Results Test.

What local business schema is

Schema is a small block of code that describes your business in a format search engines read easily: your name, what kind of business you are, where you are, how to reach you and when you're open. The format is called JSON-LD, and it's the one Google recommends.

Visitors never see it. It sits in your page's code and tells search engines what your page is already saying, in a structured way. Schema doesn't guarantee better rankings or a special listing, but it removes guesswork about the basic facts of your business.

Where to add the code

Most businesses add it once, to the homepage or the contact page. Paste the whole snippet, including the opening and closing script tags, into the page's HTML. Website builders such as WordPress, Squarespace, Wix and Shopify each have a place for custom code in the page header; search their help pages for 'add code to header'.

If someone else manages your website, send them the snippet. It takes them a few minutes to add.

Keep it matching your Google profile

Use exactly the same name, address and phone number as your Google Business Profile and your website. Consistent details across the web help search engines trust that they all describe the same business.

When your hours or phone number change, update your Google profile, your website and this code together. Out-of-date schema is worse than none, because it tells search engines something that isn't true.

Questions before you start

It's structured data, written in JSON-LD, that describes a local business: its name, type, address, phone number, hours and online profiles. Search engines read it to understand the facts on your page.
